About meCurriculum VitaeTranslation work

I have a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Portuguese Studies and I hold the DipTrans (IoL) qualification. I have been working on a freelance basis for about eight years. At the beginning of my professional life I worked as a proof-reader for the Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias and taught Portuguese for a couple of years. I was also an advocacy interpreter for Lambeth Council in London. Eventually I became a producer at the BBC World Service and worked as a researcher for Dorling Kindersley. I am the author of “Portuguese on the Move”, a language course published by Hugo. Over the years I worked on a full-time capacity for some well known translation companies, including SDL International.

At present I am involved in some regular translation assignments such as monthly corporate newsletters and specialized magazines. I am also a subtitler and a voice-artist and am often involved in the language direction and supervision of Portuguese recordings. I have recently joined TED and am proud to say that I am also a TED translator. http://www.ted.com/profiles/view/id/237057.

I live in London with my two boys and my Belgian partner. I have many interests including literature for grown-ups and for children and I am part of a book club that meets once a month in West London. I have just learned how to knit and dream of cycling around the world with my family. I like blogging and am always updating our family blog. I also write for a joint Portuguese blog, and have a little picture exchange blogging project with a best friend based in Lisbon.
