This is one of the steps to plan the design of a garden. I am lost about how to translate the whole phrase in fact. "Measure the size of your area, calculate the area and add the square footage." I haven't come across this expression before, and I can't find any reference to it in dictionaries, but from searching the internet it seems to mean something like 'get [emotionally?] involved in'?? It's from a sentence in a book on pregnancy on which I'm working.
