Sylvia Boss: Well, thank you both! Knowing it's called IAST is a step forward, for sure, and I'm glad I now know that the OCR software "should" be able to recognize whatever marks in it as 'Hindi' is also helpful! However, as with many technological shoulds, this is the text that came ...

Maria Rolón: Hello again! Isn't that transliterated sanskrit though? The system is called IAST. For OCR purposes, Hindi should work just fine. edit: Oops. I forgot the bit where you actually mention that it's transliterated sanskrit. Multi-tasking has it's disadvantages. =P

Jacek K.: Namaste, Those foreign names in your pdf are most likely written in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ IAST (Oops, same here. I misunderstood your question.)

Sylvia Boss: Hi Maria, I don't know about Gaelic, though I thank you for your suggestion & may give it a try :-) Here is an example of the source text - 4 pages from the original pdf (I hope it will attach correctly, as I am still new to this forum!) With thanks, Sylvia

Maria Rolón: The language you mentioned, could it be Gaelic? Also, could you provide a printscreen. I'm very curious. =D

Sylvia Boss: Namaste, I am transferring a book about Yoga full of technical terms transliterated from Sanskrit. The book is in English, with a lot of unusual diacritical marks. The transfer is from pdf to wiki. If I simply cut+paste, many diacriticals are either misconverted or lost. I am inclining towards ...
