I am a Christchurch NZ-based freelance translator working from Japanese to English. I am approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as a translator of academic and professional qualification certificates. 


New Zealand translation agencies for which I frequently undertake assignments include the New Zealand Translation Centre (based in Wellington), MLT Translation Centre Ltd (based in Christchurch), and Blue South Ltd (formerly based in Wanaka but now also based in Christchurch).  I also have an expanding number of private as well as other commercial clients both within and outside of New Zealand.

I have translated material in a wide variety of fields,including:  documents required for immigration purposes; phamaceutical chemistry; medical; corporate and financial; automotive; civil engineering; legal (including statutory instruments of various kinds, and documentary evidence required for presentation in court); military.

In addition to translation, I also work as an editor of English to Japanese translations.

For the past 5 years I have taught Japanese to English translation at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT), to first-, second- and third-year students of CPIT’s Bachelor of Japanese programme; however, I will retire from that activity at the end of 2009.

I am a Member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters; I serve on the Society's National Council, have served as  President of its Canterbury Branch and am currently Branch Secretary; I am also a co-editor of the Society’s journal “Word For Word”.
