On graduating from Moscow Institute of Applied Physics (1980) I worked at Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) for 10 years as an engineer and a head of department. Concurrently, I finished the postgraduate courses for translators at Smolensk State University (1983) and started to work as a part time freelance translator for the major part in the nuclear power engineering including a substantial proportion of translating American software for Integrated System for NPP Centralized Operation working in Windows. At the time I also translated foreign type technical manuals used as a pattern when Unit 3 of Smolensk NPP was under commissioning, e.g. engineering specifications for the pre-operational adjustments and launching of the main equipment (reactor, turbogenerators, main circulation pumps, main safety valves, etc).
Later I was transferred to another regular work at the local office of Gosatomenergonadzor, the Russian National Regulator in Nuclear Industries and in the capacity of a technical inspector completed the extension courses in surveillance of nuclear power engineering at Central Institute of Raising the Level of Proficiency for Top Managers and Specialists. From then on I focused on translating texts related to the safe operation, maintenance and repair of the pressure pipes and vessels which make an integral part of many safety systems, and some safety assurance electrical machinery, as well as related to the installation of new equipment, welding and non-destructive testing. I also translated the design plans and specifications of large pieces of power equipment (e.g. steamgenerators and standby diesel-generators of foreign manufacture) to be installed and the site welding instruction manuals. As a freelance translator I participated in preparing forms and records presented to both IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) ASSET (Assessment of Safety Significant Events Team) Mission and WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) Peer Review held at Smolensk NPP. Likewise, I took part in some TACIS (Technical Assistance for the Commonwealth of Independent States) Projects - Nuclear Safety Programme, Smolensk NPP - and translated several Supply Contracts, Service Contracts, and others financed by European Community from TACIS Funds.
Moreover, I now and again translated documents related to allied subindustries such as coal, gas, hydro, geothermal, wind power generation, and other renewable energy (e.g. photovoltaic modules and solar thermal packages).
To summarize briefly, as to nuclear power engineering more specifically, I made a speciality of translating scientific and technical papers on topics related to the following divisions of the field in which I gained a wealth of experience:
nuclear fuel cycle;
nuclear safety;
UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, diesel generator sets, storage batteries;
nuclear R&D;
nuclear waste management and decommissioning;
operation;
environmental technology;
operational training and simulation;
maintenance and repair;
plant updating;
instrumentation and control;
radiological protection, dosimetry and health physics;
rotating equipment.

More recently I graduated from the Law Department of Moscow State University (1995) and at the same time finished the courses for the securities market specialists at Moscow Interagency Educational and Scientific Center and worked as a company lawyer. Hence, as to law and kindred domains I focused on translating legal documents primarily related to the following bodies of law in which I am wholly competent:
law of contracts;
law of obligation;
law of civil procedure;
law of property;
company law;
law of master and servant.
In addition, I fairly often translated contracts, applications, claim papers, instructions, articles, excerpts from law-books, etc. related to insurance, accounting, management, the securities market as well as to administrative law, bankrupt law, fiscal law, land law, law of the road, and law of corrections.
Besides, in the last few years I had occasion to translate numerous WebPages, advertisements, business letters, booklets, bills, pamphlets, leaflets of diverse subjects, among them all fields of applied economics, business and finance.
Until very recently, in Russia a NPP organization was a multidivisional structure that integrated not only producing units but also public utilities and residential construction, transportation, agricultural farms, other nonproductive assets. So, now and again I happened to translate texts related to sanitary services (sewerage and water supply), public electric and heat supply, stock raising and plant growing, excavating machine, pipelaying machine, seeding and reaping machines, tractor, crane truck and the like, although my experience collected in certain of the above-enumerated spheres is not too wide.
Some of the specimens that give an idea of my translation are to be found on my HomePage.

Now I am a full time freelance translator. My major clients:

Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant and its associated companies,
Smolensk Training Center for NPP operators,
Kalininskaya Nuclear Power Plant,
Smolensk State University.

I keep in touch with many professionals working in nuclear power engineering and they will be ready to advise me any time should I encounter difficulties with translating any ambiguous terms reflecting intricate technical questions. I also have a connection among linguists and jurisprudents from Smolensk State University and Smolensk University of the Humanities and can consult them at any moment.
I also can put together a team of translators when needed.
I am always readily available for clients, weekends and holidays not being ruled out.
