About me

I have been working in the professional and business world for over 20 years and as part of that work, translating documents dealing with contractual, technical, cultural and design matters relating to architecture, construction, industrial design and associated areas.

In and around those areas I regularly translate a wide variety of documents, such as the technical manual for a concrete casting machine; major scholarly books on the work of important architects and designers (Gio Ponti, Carlo Mollino, Tadao Ando); zippy or thoughtful articles for up-market interior decoration and design magazines; technical and procedural reports on EU funding for major infrastructure projects; a surveyor’s report about a damp house in the Abruzzo; a presentation book about big ships, for an industrial firm that wants a book to offer clients as part of their PR strategy.

My business-to-business approach keeps me focussed on the needs of that other business that commissioned the translation I’m working on. I’m always passionately interested in what I’m translating and as I work, I research that particular field.

I'm always aware that a big contract might depend on the quality of my translation of a product description; someone’s career may take off because I have done a good translation of an article about their work; my translations for luxury magazines will be read by movie stars; someone may operate a dangerous piece of machinery using a manual I have translated.

I like to feel that my work as a translator is part of the real world.
