	Deep and varied utilization of Korean language over 40 year span.  Over 2 ½ years of Upper Division university study in Korean immersion environment.  Consistent maximum-level scores on Defense Language Proficiency Tests.  Strong mastery of Chinese Characters by immersion.  Varied use of Korean includes interpreting, negotiating, liaison, and teaching and administration in immersion setting.   Recent projects include international news articles, website translation, construction bid specifications, patent concept descriptions, tourism and museum related materials, plus numerous abstracts for scholarly papers in technical and Social Science fields.

	· 2000- 01 Contract Translator for Foreign Broadcast Information Service  Translated newspaper and magazine articles on Unification Issues, Trade and Economics, International Affairs, etc. · 2001                Korea Telecom  Translated extensive documents on instructions and terms for bidders on Fiber Optic Network project. · 2001     Translated selected excerpts from The Makeup of North Korean Society, by Wu Jung.  Also translated articles and reports for North Korean refugee advocacy organizations.  · 1998       Translated 350-page book on economic policy for Korean think tank.  1979~90 Supported about 20 major military training exercises as a translator, interpreter, or Korean speaking role player, regularly translating complex documents and explaining complex concepts, surmounting interlingual communication bottlenecks and forging rapport where others had failed. · 1980~88   Wrote directly in Korean three articles published without translation in Korean magazines.  Drafted directly in Korean mechanical concept description accepted as adequate without translation for patent search.
Extensive Cultural Immersion
	Learned Korean by immersion during thirty-month volunteer assignment in Korea, 1963~66, using the Korean language in teaching, leadership training and administration.  Later traveled the length of the country by bicycle twice.  Worked on bicycle prototype fabrication in Korean facilities.  Participated in bicycle racing, oratory contest and participated as an adopted student in a Middle School night program for disadvantaged youth.  Repeatedly housed and fed as the lone foreigner among Korean Army troops during training exercises.  Treated like family by long-term friends and strangers in Korean homes.
