Work Experience

Freelance translator: I concentrate on technical translations but I am frequently asked to do literary and business translations as well. Most of the technical translations I do are related to industrial equipment, but recently, I have done a lot of work for companies in the automotive industry. I am also frequently asked to translate magazine articles and book passages for executives. These are mostly business related.

Software Sales and Business Development Manager: I worked for a Silicon Valley based company. We sold E-Business software and I was the technical manager, so I wrote demos and instructed our Mexican partners on the technical aspects of the company's products. I also assisted our partners in presentations to clients since I was a specialist in personalization, OLTP, Content Management, and Intranets. As part of my job, I started the translation department of the company which translated technical material for several Mexican companies, partners, and clients.

Business/Technical: I started, with others, several companies in Monterrey and Silicon Valley. They were all computer and Internet related. One of the companies I started was dedicated to providing services to publishing firms in the U.S. One of the services we provided was technical translation. That was my responsibility.

Freelance technology consultant and writer on various technical projects which involved various, dissimilar objectives: As part of these projects, I translated the project documentation from English into Spanish.

Director of the Center for Science and Technology of Guadalajara, Mexico: I was responsible for the administration of the institution, the training of the personnel, and the design and construction of the exhibits. I also translated from English all technical manuals, film scripts, and museum material.

Technical Manager of the Alfa Cultural Center in Monterrey, Mexico: This is a planetarium, science museum, and interactive workshop. I was a producer and translator of all audiovisual material. My responsibilities also included but were not limited to the production of audiovisual material and translating all exhibit material from Spanish into English and from English into Spanish.

Head writer of and educational TV station in Monterrey: We produced educational television programs for the Open University and Open High School initiative. I wrote English as a Second Language programs for the station. Most of this material was translated from Spanish into English for Latino audiences in the U.S.
