Japanese – English (native) French – English (native) Bio I am a British national with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Japanese Studies from the University of Stirling, Scotland (1996) where I studied at the Scottish Centre for Japanese Studies. I also attended the prestigious Chuo University in Tokyo, where I lived and studied for some time under the sponsorship of the Japan Society of Scotland. I then went on to teach, translate and interpret Japanese for a wide range of clients throughout the UK, including two years at the University of Edinburgh’s Fujisawa Institute of Neuroscience, Scotland. I now work exclusively in translation and regularly translate and project-manage for various firms, organizations and agencies, with particular expertise in the scientific, medical and technical fields. My portfolio includes the translation of scientific and technical patents, clinical research/trials, government applications for pharmaceutical listings and many other related works as well as legal, technical, marketing and many other interesting and varied general translations including subtitling the BBC food production “All About Sushi” and a translation on the historical Japanese ball game kemari for Transworld Sport. In 2002 I expanded my repertoire to include French to English and in this pair I translate in the scientific and patent fields in addition to more general work. My French to English work includes the translation of Environment Canada Status Reports for threatened species, transport and tourism related translations, contest rules, construction industry documentation, patents and more general French to English work. I have been working with languages for 10 years, and have published several internet articles on working as a translator. |
