I have undertaken numerous translation jobs and projects since 1985. Apart from full time jobs mainly related to content management - some of which are listed in experience section below - and many part time translation projects in these years, I have 13 years of full time experience as a translator.

I translate from Turkish into English as well as from English into Turkish. I am a native Turkish speaker who has lived in the UK as a child and learned English there. In later years I found much opportunity to read, listen to and write English. But since I have been living in Turkey for many years, I undertake translations from Turkish to English only in fields that I know very well and which do not require complete mastery over daily English (I do not translate marketing documents or advertising copy to English for instance). Additionally, I have my translations into English proofread by a native speaker, especially if time is short.

I have extensive experience in proofreading, editing and content management. I am also experienced in subtitling, translating in fixed space constraints and meeting strict deadlines. I am familiar with both British English and American English idioms and slang.

I have translated and edited documents and web pages in numerous formats. I have been editing and translating technical & engineering documents and articles for 20 years. I also have extensive experience in editing and proof-reading for end-user computer magazines and other IT periodicals.

Selected Professional Experience:

2005: Times Translation - Translated technical documents and user manuals from English into Turkish.

2005: Step Translations - Translated business reports, presentations and market research documents from Turkish into English. Translated advertising material and consultancy reports from English into Turkish.

2004: TransPerfect Translations - Provided cultural consultation for a client regarding the Turkish market.

2004: Helsinki Citizens' Assembly - Translated human rights tactics books and pre-symposium material for the International Training Symposium hosted in Ankara, Turkey in late 2004 by the US based Center for Victims of Torture and the Turkish Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly [www.hyd.org.tr]. Also translated all English papers into Turkish for the book ’Language Rights in the European Union’.

2004: CNN TURK / Inflight Department - Provided translation, subtitling & editing of the daily CNN news bulletin into Turkish and the daily CNN TURK television news bulletin into English. Translation was done in fixed space constraints and daily translation deadlines were very tight.

2003-2004: IFE Services Istanbul - Worked in the inhouse translation team at the local office of IFE Services [www.ifeservices.com]. The daily BBC World news bulletin presented in an audio file format was translated to Turkish, noting the time codes for subtitling. Editing was done for the Turkish audience where necessary. Translation was done in fixed space constraints. Daily translation deadlines were very tight.

2003: Probil – Translation from Turkish into English of nearly all of the web site content of Probil, a leading Turkish IT company. Also translated Powerpoint presentations for CeBIT Hannover from Turkish into English.

2003: Fremantle Productions Turkey – Translated treatments and scripts for television contest shows and television series from English into Turkish.

Summary of Other Experience Related to Services Offered:

2001-2002: enocta – Director of Content Development Group in enocta, founded to provide corporations with custom e-Learning solutions. Developed custom e-Learning content and managed content of big clients, some of which were operating in the pharmaceuticals, banking and insurance fields.

1998-1999: ZDNet Turkey – As Editor-in-Chief, developed the project, put together and directed the team up to the launch of the computing focused Internet portal.

1993-1998: PC Magazine Turkey - As Editor-in-Chief, developed the project, assembled and managed the team, launched and managed the monthly computer publication.
