Education:
1998 – 2002 Bachelor degree, English Literature, Faculty of Letters (now Faculty of Humanities), Airlangga University, Surabaya – Indonesia
TOEFL: 653 (June 2004)
Though graduated in March 2002, I started out as a translator back in November 2000 during the days of thesis-proposal writing in my 6th semester. This first team-project, in which I was entrusted the task of translating several chapters, was a textbook on pharmacology of approximately 1000 pages. Joining the team as a junior translator (selected by the Head of English Department due to my winning the faculty’s Best Student title shortly before the project started), I translated several chapters on barbiturates and anesthetics. Together with a dozen other members of the team – all were professors and lecturers of the department – the project was finally accomplished before New Year 2001.
Ever since, I began accepting translation jobs (mostly on social sciences) on demand.
As an active member of church congregation (Bride Tidings International), I was also appointed junior interpreter in 2001, and afterward a full member of the interpreter board in 2002. A few months after graduation, I was highly active in ministering simultaneous interpretation of sermons in the church and translating sermons excerpts from Indonesian to English for our bilingual website.
In mid-2003, the Bride Tidings International (a.k.a. GPT Kristus Gembala – Ajaib) in Surabaya established SAPTA-KMI (Bride Tidings International Tabernacle Bible School), now known as STTIA (School of Tabernacle Theology). I was appointed lecturer, interpreter, and translator in the newly-established institution, which also accepted international students, notably from the Papua New Guinea. For STTIA, I translated several books on Tabernacle teachings, mostly the works of C.W. Slemming.
During this period, I was also doing thesis-proofreading in English for English Department students and acted as secondary advisor.
In August 2004, I moved from Surabaya and settled down in Mojokerto district, 65 km away, focusing on building a family and taking up translation as main profession. Translation jobs on theology are still coming from STTIA, but I have become much more open to other fields of translation ever since, from children’s colorful comic books to human resources management handbooks, from popular psychology and personality-test workbook to machine manual and travel & tourism website.
Professional Association:
I am officially registered as member of HPI (Indonesian Translator Association) since May 23, 2011.
