Personal Statement

In my three years with Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust I have fulfilled many different roles. I worked closely with the Retail Manager during the development of a high street retail chain and was given responsibility for setting up the charity’s ecommerce operation and strategy. I presented seminars on this topic at the Association of Air Ambulances Annual Conference in 2010 and 2011. More recently I have worked alongside the Senior Fundraising Officer on research projects with regard to new fundraising strategies including major donor fundraising, and also in setting up, managing and running fundraising events. On a more general level, I have plenty of administration experience, including use of our Donor Database. My IT skills are excellent on both Windows and Mac, and I am one of those responsible for content creation and management of our online portals, including the website, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

I find working in the charity sector fascinating and highly rewarding, and my experience running and following projects from conception, through to trials, review and implementation has given me valuable transferable skills in time management, organisation and logical thinking.

My other passion in life is languages; I am bilingual in French and English, having studied it intensively since primary school. I also studied Spanish to A level, and continued that study whilst at a French university, so I am happy working in combination with French, Spanish and my mother tongue, English. In 2011, after graduating with a 1st from Keele University, I decided to pursue my love of translation by setting up Awendan Translation Services as a self-employed freelancer. I also joined the ITI as a student, and my membership level is currently being reviewed for upgrade to Associate.

Translation:

• Translation EN>FR of content for ScolioTrack App, approx. 4,000 words including all screens, buttons, and description for iTunes listing.

• Translation EN>FR of eBay listing content for TeamDogz Scooters, approx. 250 words.

• Translation FR>EN and SP>EN for agency totalling 2,226 words.

• Proofreading in English for agency, totalling 161 words.

• Translation FR>EN of articles for Humanité in English (voluntary); since May 2011 I have translated 13 articles to a total of approx. 7,700 source words.

From current & past employment:

• Project management; including setup of eBay shop and other retail and core fundraising projects.

• Presentation of seminars at industry conferences on ecommerce for charities.

• Creation and management of online content including for website, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

• Six years experience in tourism & travel industry, primarily in hotels but also extremely familiar with tourist attractions.

• Money handling; counting cash donations using counting machine and spreadsheet system in addition to petty cash at events.

• Collecting of donation jars from public and businesses.

• Sorting, grading and organisation of stock in warehouse, taking of phone calls from public about donations.

- First Aid at Work, valid for 3 years, awarded by In Safe Hands & HSE approved.

2010-Present: University of theWest of England – MA Translation (Distance Learning). Studying part time. At current rate, will be due to graduate in 2013. Current exit level of PG Certificate with Distinction.
