 post Lithuanian

Not really... It depends on the source language. I deem something a Lithuanian author wrote suitable - I post Lithuanian. English author - English it is. Russian, Polish, French... Source language!

Translators?

RE: A T Pub, please?

I can see it, but I cannot hear it, and it's a good analogy for showing that just because something doesn't float one person's boat then everyone else has to deal with what is essentially a personal thing. I don't ask anyone here to accommodate me.

Nanna, I'm aware of this.  I also hope that if something interests you and you would like to know what is being said, that would speak up because your colleagues would want to help out.

In this case, however, I was thinking about others - there would be a lot of people who don't understand Russian.  I took Russian, though it tends to mix with Serbian these days, so I did understand the gist of it.  But I wanted to understand properly.

No big deal.

Maxi

RE: Not quite Miss Manners, rather ....

Dodo, translators are not omniglots.  Even if I have 8 languages, that will not help me understand the 9th so I am in the same situation as any non-linguist.  Anyhow, communication is something that is important to me.  If you have posted, then I assume that you have something to say.  I've stated my attitude clearly and it is not an offensive one.  The matter is closed for me.

Ok, this is ridiculous.  Yesterday a comment was made in a thread I'm interested in and I wanted to know what it said.  Today a response to my request to understand gets put into a totally different thread - this one.  And now the comment in the original thread - which undoubtedly was on-topic - and my request to know what it said - are both deleted.

I`ve just noticed this is more ridiculous than I thought. Sorry, Maxi, but I have not seen your question. I saw the notification about a new post, I followed that and I saw nothing new on the thread, except for my post missing. So my No I Won`t is certainly not an answer to your question. I don`t even know what the question was. I always try to answer questions, provided I know the/an answer. And the question, of course...

RE: A T Pub, please?

Thank you for explaining, Dodo, and I'm sorry for the assumption.  Last night I asked -- in Russian (I borrowed your letters by cutting and pasting) --- for you to tell me what a sentence meant.  I was also silly-humorous which might have looked nasty, by first writing in German.  This morning I saw "No I won't!" saying you wouldn't translate.  So I put 2 + 2 = 3.5 together, that you were responding to my question.  I wondered why it was over here, though.

Yeah - what you wrote, and my question to it - got deleted.  No matter.  It was not that important.

If the sentence you asked about was the quotation deleted, then it meant, kinda, "Typing very fast, crap guaranteed", but not precisely; that`s why I wish somebody else would translate quotations, into their own mother tongue, prrreeez! And as I like fun, I doubt I would get irritated about humorous. Or about German. Coincidence... Funny or nasty, I`m still not sure...  Would you restore your question and post that to my private box? I`d dearly like to see what the fun was about, and I hope I could even come up with  a funny answer...

RE: A T Pub, please?

Joyce and Proust used other languages too, within a text in main language.

an alternative could be to move the entire Pub, considering its regulars, to Other Languages.

As far as I am concerned, a viable alternative.

I am sure one or two of them would be even occasionally posting in Lithuanian.

Perhaps we could broaden the scope and consider a Baltic (States?) Languages forum?

what would be the language of the forum,

Not one language, but different threads in the respective languages.

Compare with these existing multilingual forums: Scandinavian, South Slavic Languages, Indian Languages, Other Languages...

I think it worthwhile to consider one or two of the alternative solutions above.

Nanna

RE: A T Pub, please?

Well, Estonian has nothing to do with Lithuanian and Latvian. It will be like people communicating in Norwegian and Finnish.
