Systran 6.0 Error Message

When I try to translate a web page I often get error messages like this.

"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site

http: // 127.0.0.1:51916/File°/o2OTranslated%20by%20SYSTRAN%20v6?r=Of4f435c-f632-461 a-becd-47fO68f8bde6 &n=_&Ip=zh_en.

Operation aborted."

Can someone tell me what it means and how I can rectify this problem? Thanks.

Hi,

Can you please provide the exact software model of the range of available products.  It would be SYSTRAN Home Translator, Office Translator, Business Translator or Premium Translator. The new V6 was released on 30 January 2007, so it's fairly new.

Please also provide information:

* the Operating System that you are running on  (such as, MS XP Service Pack 2)

* the version of Internet Explorer that you are using (v6 of SYSTRAN software range of products supports both IE v6 and IE v7)

* other Microsoft software on your computer. In my experience, these other applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) create conflicts with the different versions of SYSTRAN software products.

One way to get a good diagnosis of what is happening on your system is to go to either MS Word or Excel and follow the steps below:

1. Go to and select Help / ? at the end of the menu

2. Go to and select "About MS XX" at the bottom of the menu (make sure that you pull the arrow down so that the whole list of menu items display)

3. A Dialog box pops up and you need to choose the 2nd box (System Information) of the 4 that appear in the box

4. A System Information dialog opens.  Go to File > Export

5. Choose to export to a .txt file and give it a name and a location where you can easily find it.

It will take about 30 seconds to 2 minutes to export it completely, depending how many applications are installed on your computer.

Once the file has been saved, open it with Notepad and do a search (Ctrl F) inside of it on the follow terms:

error

application error

or the equivalents of these terms in your language in your operating system.

This will take you down to a section indicating the history of application errors that have occurred on your computer.  Your Internet Explorer problem with SYSTRAN should display there.  It should also provide a short description reason of what is happening.

You can contact SYSTRAN support desk by going to their Website (www.systransoft.com or www.systran.fr), go the Support section, and go to relevant software type and version.  There is a web submission page there that lets you enter all of the relevant information and it will automatically send the request to the Support Call tracking system. You should receive an automatic reply within 5-15 minutes with a 5 digit support ticket number + the title of the problem that you indicated.

If you do not receive that automatic reply within 30 minutes, then send a description of your problem directly to support-hsb@systransoft.com

hope that helps.

Jeff

Jeff,

Thank you very much for your advice. It seems the error occurs with certain web sites. I have now contacted Systran.

Thanks again.

Hi Neo Quon,

Did Systran ever reply to you on resolving your problem?

Jeff

I think "machine translation" is an oxymoron.

Am I right?

Cheap systems will likely produce cheap results. I'll post more about Bablyon that I've found in past week in the other thread.

Here are some threads that are related to using professional/expert level MT software:

training human translators on tools

I agree that computer-based tools do not replace the human brain

the relationship between human translators and CAT tools

MT for some language styles and not others?

linguistic stylistic variation and MT

does MT software take work away from translators?

terminology is key to using MT

optimizing those MT dictionaries

proofreading (postediting) of MT output

RE: machine translation

Thank you Jeff. With Babylon I was really scared. They should stop text translations whatsoever. Their dictionaries are good, I guess, but the translation is terrible. I am not looking into text translating instruments to use them for translations - I mean professional translations . Sometimes I learn new languages, so some simple machine translations would be great for certain phrases, like "my name is"  "I live ine New York" and so on.

Unfortunately Babylon cannot do even that. In fact I have a very sceptical view  of machine translation. I think it is just physically impossible and people are just trying to steach computarization into this field.

Thank you again.

Liliana
