| AbracadabraCompteur: your free WordCounter for PDF files ► TITLE & VERSION: AbracadabraCompteur 2 ► LICENSE: freeware► HOMEPAGE: http://www.abracadabrapdf.net/pages/fr/abracompteur#ENG► Software Publisher's DESCRIPTION: AbracadabraCompteur is a free utility for Adobe Reader 5.1 or higher. It supports all Mac OS and Windows versions. AbracadabraCompteur also runs with the full Adobe Acrobat 5.1 or higher. AbracadabraCompteur is a part of abracadabraTOOLS.► NK's RATING & NOTES: "How can I count words in PDF-files?" I believe you will all agree that it is a real translators' FAQ. One of the solutions is to use a dedicated stand-alone software program. Many people recommend the application called AnyCount. Perhaps it's good software but to pay USD 37.00 for a program that can only count words... Well, I'm afraid that's too much. USD 3.70 would be a fair price... In general I have noticed that practically all products developed by Ukrainian Advanced International Translations (AIT) company (creators of AnyCount) are quite overpriced. I would suggest to use AbracadabraCompteur utility instead for which you don't need to pay anything as it's absolutely free. In fact it's a tiny (only 5 KB) JavaScript file adding extra functionality to your Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Please find AbracadabraCompteur attached to this post and note: it counts only words, it doesn't count characters or lines. Do the following: 1) Download AbracadabraCompteur2_-_PDF_WordCounter.zip. 2) Unzip it. 3) Copy AbracadabraCompteur2.js file and drop it in the subfolder of your Adobe Reader or Acrobat called "JavaScripts". If you can’t access that subfolder, drop the Compteur2Mots.js file in (My) Documents --> Acrobat user --> JavaScripts. 4) Restart your Adobe Reader or Acrobat, go to Tools and voila - now you've got a Wordcounter there:
Happy counting! NK

Just so that you don't get half of what you could get :
http://www.abracadabrapdf.net/pages/fr/abratools#ENG
This is the download page for AbracadabraTools, the full (freeware!) suite which AbracadabraCompteur is extracted from.
If you install AbracadabraTools, you not only get AbracadabraCompteur, but also a handful of other nice tools which would otherwise require the full version of Acrobat (and even then, you still get a few extra features).
For those having problems to install either AbracadabraCompteur or AbracadabraTools, simply unpack then using your favorite archiver and copy the .js script into the "Scripts" folder of your Acrobat version (works on both PC and Mac). And that's it!
Kind regards,
Denis Hay

Thanks Denis, I know about AbracadabraTools and there's a link to them in my post too but so far I used only a WordCounter as I've got the full version of Acrobat. I can't say I'm a great expert on Acrobat capabilities so could you tell me please what those extra features are so that I can concentrate my attention on them? NK
