Comrade Jacek, are you suggesting that you spent your time in 70s Poland listening to Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, MJ and James Brown on Krakow FM?

You omitted, yes, Leonard Cohen whom Nikita and I used to listen to on Voice of America... BTW, he is singing in Venice this coming Monday and I will miss him again...

You mean you and NIkita go that way back? Wow! what a small world! You know, most of the 70's before 76 are for me just lucky flashes here and there. It was not until late 78 or early 79 that my cognisance of things on television became fairly dependable, though I watched the 78 World Cup, all that I remember about it is that it was long and 'late' at night. No Mario Kempes or 'total football' for me. Despite this, the short span between 76 and 79 for me have been like no other. To quote a 70's hit, "Heaven must have been missing an angel." My guardian angel must have been a most gracious and attentve being, who was probably recalled between Christmas 79 and New Years Day 1980 after I probably inadvertently kissed some girl under the mistletoe and sipped liquor. The 70's! WOW!

Do you remember the optly name: Heaven Can Wait-winner of eight academy awards, The Raging Bull, Star Wars, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, The Bee Gees, Abba, Barry White. Bonny M?

Abba... .... ....

The Bee Gees ... ... ...

John Travolta ... ... ...

Dallas ... ... ...

The Safari Rally....

Nairobi Cafes... ... ...

Polished Foreign Ministry Chinese born during the Chiang era and probably foreign educated... ... ...

This would never end, the 70's you lived them, you know.

.... and there is this small matter of 79, UN Year of the Child, the concert, Earth Wind and Fire, Abba, Donna Summer and her daughter, a young Kenyan girl talking in vernacular at that concert. What a time!

And you omitted me. What`s more, you forgot to mention the Radio Luxemburg...

What a time!

Oh yeah! Yet I`m sorry to admit those were times when I deemed groups like, say, Pussy Cat (or Mungo Jerry, I`m truly ashamed to admit now) too watery... It used to be Alice Cooper or Atomic Rooster or Black Sabbath (or of course the nonpareil Uriah Heep) for me...

RE: What kind of music do you enjoy?

I find all music enjoyable, with the exception of rap. The tune, more than the lyrics, seems to move me in different directions.  Music can make me happy, sad, angry, and even sexually aroused. I think it interesting how we are affected by various stimuli, such as music. I remember something about the selection of songs played on the radio during various parts of the day were used to control, if you will, moods. The calmer tunes being played, for example, during rush hour traffic and more upbeat tunes played right after normal business lunch hours when most people go into a sort of slump. True? I don't know, but do remember I found it interesting.

Anyway, the very best music is music that burns right through your soul.

But!

Do you really want your soul burned?

Maybe just smoked around.  You can always listen to it in an asbestos suit.

The Music of Birds on Wires

The proverbial bird sitting on a utility wire. It’s the image that, as the story goes, inspired Leonard Cohen to begin composing the legendary song “Bird on a Wire” in the 1960s. Fast forward 40 years to our present, technology-enabled day, and the iconic avian image is still inspiring musical art. Check out this charming music video on Vimeo by film director/musician Jarbas Agnelli, who interpreted birds sitting on utility wires as “notes” on a “musical staff”—just to discover what song the resting avians were silently singing.

That is so cool!  And since all the birds are on wires and none in the spaces in between you cannot have any truly discordant sounds.  Instant harmony.

Would that be listening, though?

And the gist would be lost, of course.

Well asbestos suit may be the only way, Dodo, if you do not want to be totally overtaken by it, I mean totally. This is why I usualy do not listen to certain music casually
