Hi folks, Yesterday I received an email message with the subject line 100% identical to the subject of my present posting. I suppose three exclamations marks there assume that the addressee should be very enthusiastic about the event but I wasn't... The message run like this: Dear Sir or Madam, TRADOS WORLD TOUR is started. Do you have enough translators with Trados knowledge? Do you know translators, which would like to start to work with TRADOS? Please be informed, that there will be TRADOS WORLD TOUR event in Vilnius. When? 10.09.2005 Where? Vilnius Participation fee is EUR 70,00 per person Places for Participants are limited. Please register, to get the latest information about this event. http://www.trados.com/tour/ Please send this information to your freelance translators. Your office Translators are welcome too. Ar cienju/With best regards Kaspars Klavins SIA Mestako |
I replied with the following message: | Dear Kaspars, Thank you for the invitation. I would be happy to attend the training session but unfortunately I have to reject it for the reasons stated below: QUOTE: "Participation fee is EUR 70,00 per person" Yes, I do know that this fee is lower than in many other countries but still I think is too high: in a country like Lithuania the participation fee for the work-shop like this shouldn't be higher than 50-70 LTL (EUR 15-20). For the reference: The average monthly salary in Lithuania is ~ EUR 350) In developed countries (i.e. USA) the participation fee is $350. I think it is too high for the event like this but in any way it constitutes there only 10% of the average monthly salary and thus in Lithuania the fee should be not more than EUR 35. I have had a look at the agenda: so many topics for several people in one room in one day... it is almost useless. The result will be next to zero. And I'm supposed to pay for that EUR 70.00? No way. I believe Trados should be more interested in offering training to translators, their actual and potential clients... |
TRADOS WORLD TOUR!!! Well, well... It sounds similar to The Rolling Stones World Tour! Or Madonna's... Trados on Top of the Pops... In Vilnius a concert ticket for top world artists costs usually around EUR 20-30. The participation fee for TRADOS WORLD TOUR event in Vilnius is EUR 70... Frankly speaking if you do try you will be able to find in Vilnius tickets for top acts at a price of EUR 70. Those tickets are for VIP boxes and they are served with free champagne, etc... Do they offer free champagne to participants at Trados work-shops I wonder... NK

....I suppose three exclamations marks there assume that the addressee should be very enthusiastic about the event but I wasn't... | If arguments like the one reproduced did not convince you, Nik, that certainly means a total failure of the tour. A Polish company recently offered: Trados Freelance: 645 Euro + VAT = EUR 787 Trados Freelance + training at the company: 695 Euro + VAT = EUR 848 which would mean that the cost of training (I don't know details) was EUR 50 (i.e., 10% of the avg. national salary) + VAT = EUR 61 Jacek

A hundred euros is too much, and all those subjects covered in a single session is too much. I think they should be more professional and serious about these matters.

It's not bad if it's for several days training and not just one-day seminar trying to cover all the topics at once... | I am afraid it's the latter. Have found 2 other offers in Poland, from different companies: Trados 7.0 Freelance - EUR 682 net Trados 7.0 Freelance + training - EUR 829 net i.e., the cost of said training is here EUR 147 net. The other offer, for EUR 30, is just a multimedia presentation in Warsaw. I will not even begin to tell you much customized training organized by Trados itself, either at their HQ in Stuttgart or on your premises, would cost... Jacek
