RE: ...and war
Yes, Pat Buchanan has said and written some really objectionable things. But that does not make absolutely everything that the man states wrong. I actually disagree with him more than I agree with him on many, many issues.
And Bernie, I do not think that Buchanan stated that the Germans captured were civilians. They were enemy combatants not in uniform. The truth is that the U.S. has had a very consistent position on this since 1776, which is that enemy combatants are not tried as civilians, with the full constitutional rights that Americans would have. Far from being out of step with Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and JFK, Bush is very much in line with them. It is Obama/Holder who are going off on a historical experiment, and we have no idea where that will end. KSM has already stated his guilt and has said he is responsible for Sep.11, 2001 "from A to Z". So what KSM will do is use the trial as a circus of anti-Americanism, and Al Quida will use it to gain access to U.S. intelligence that they would not otherwise have had. There is also a chance that KSM will be acquitted, for example, on a technicality.
... imagine for one moment what will happen to the Democratic Party, politically, if KSM walks out of that court house, a "free man".
I also do not understand how bringing KSM to a civil trial will not completely emasculate our military. Let's face it, Obama has continued the use of predator drones which fire missiles at people (wihtout first reading them their Miranda warnings [we are not allowed to fire missiles at criminal suspects under investigation !]), and we have snipers and Obama has not discontinued the use of rendition (flying terrorists to place like Egypt). I do not understand how Obama and Holder can continue such practices, if every terror suspect is to be given full U.S. Constitutional protections, anywhere in the world (!). It makes no sense. So even by its own logic, it is internally inconsistent, and will be not only a "circus", but will also have far-reaching and very negative effects that we have yet to see.
Of course, those who want to see the U.S. military emasculated, and want to see an anti-American circus in which Al Quida gets to grandstand, paid for by the American taxpayer, can now rejoice.
