I am a PC user currently in the process of buying a MacBook Pro. I do not have TRADOS for the PC laptop I'm using now (because I can't afford it yet; I still have five months of school here in Beijing before I can enter the professional world), and did not realize until too late that TRADOS itself could only be run through Parallels or Boot Camp if one wishes to run it on a Mac. TRADOS is expensive enough by itself, but there seems to me to be no alternative to it in terms of reliable translation software. Is there anyone here who uses/likes Wordfast, or any other Mac-compatible translation software?
Speaking more generally, the overall quality of today's Macintosh computers has me convinced that it would be a smart purchase overall; I'm simply a little afraid that it could become a huge pain in the neck for translation work. Are there any Mac users out there with the answer?

Hello,
For a starter, you may read these existing threads: Trados with Mac Trados on Virtual PC
as well as browse other previous threads in this forum, if you have not already done so.

Funny. I DID spend time looking for other mac-related threads before I posted, and didn't find that one. Strange.

First, it is free, second, it supports MS Office .doc .xls .ppt documents, .html, OpenOffice .odt, ods and other OpenOffice documents. Second, it supports Trados .tmx translation memory formats and saves translation memory as .tmx. Third, if your client wants a Wordfast TM, Omegat's .tmx is supported by Wordfast.
Regards,
Alexander
