Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi everyone,
Probably a question that it really easy to answer (I had no succes searching on the internet) as I'am a new user of Wordfast Pro.
Here we go...I'am translating a Word-file in Wordfast. If I preview in Word for the first time, I see nicely the parts already translated in the original (Word) document. After that I save the document, later on open Wordfast again, start translating again and if I then do Preview in Word again, I don't see a nice Word-file, but a Excell table....just how it is showed in Wordfast...how come? And also of course...how can I just keep on having a look at the original Word-file when I use Preview?
Appreciate your answer(s) in advance,
Thanks, michel

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi Michel,
There are two possible explanations for this problem.
First, if you are using Word 2007, there is a known issue that the developers are working to resolve. Word 2007 will only allow you to view the preview in table format right now.
Secondly, it is possible that you have changed the name or location of the original source file, so the source and the TXML are unlinked. Please check that the name or location has not been changed.
Please let me know if this helps.
Sincerely,
Kristyna

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Dear Kristyna,
Thanks for your message. I heard about the Word 2007 version already. This was not the case, it was actually just a matter of opening the original word-document again (which of course already had a txml made). I was opening the partly translated document.
Merry Christmas, michel

Hi Kristyna,
I do have another question for you about using Wordfast Pro with word 2007...do you still have to save files into -2003 version, or can you use word 2007 documents straight away (only without preview)...?
Thank you,
Michel

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
No, that issue has been resolved. You can translate MS Word 2007 directly. Just be sure you are running the latest version of Wordfast Pro, version 2.2.4.
Sincerely,
Kristyna

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi Michael and Krystina,
I have picked up on this discussion and would like to pick your brains as I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm (very!) new to Wordfast, and have just translated a document but when I preview in Word it appears in table format. If I try to open the Word document directly I get an error message saying it cannot start the convertor mswd 632...
Have you any idea what I should do? Is there something I need to download? I don't remember having this problem with my previous file.
Thanks for any light you can shed on the matter,
Louise

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi Louise,
It sounds like you are translating a docx (MS Word 2007) file with Wordfast. There is a known issue where the Preview in MS Word function results in a table format preview when translating docx file. Then, it sounds like you are trying to open the Word 2007 doc in an earlier version of MS Word since you don't have MS Word 2007.
If this is the case, you can download this package to enable you to open docx files in earlier versions of word - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en
If this does not resolve your issue, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Kristyna Marrero

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi Krystina, thanks for replying. I followed your advice and downloaded the convertor, but still have the same problem. I'm not even sure that the software is correctly installed, if I understand the various documents, tutorials and forums, I should be able to open word and see the Wordfast icon in the toolbar shouldn't I?
This is not the case for me. Basically when the agency sends me a txml file I open it up in Wordfast and translate.
What I want to do now is see it in Word to check appearance and proofread fluidly. If I don't manage to do this and return the txml file to the agency will the original word format of the document be respected (font, size, spacing etc)?
I'm looking into proper training but for now just need to get this project done and returned!
Thanks again,
Louise

RE: Preview in Word (Wordfast Pro)
Hi Louise,
Based on your post, it looks like you are reading the documentation for Wordfast Classic (our MS Word-based tool) since you mention opening Word and seeing the Wordfast Toolbar. The online help documentation for Wordfast Pro can be found here - http://www.wordfast.com/Wordfast_Pro/Wordfast_Pro_Help.htm
In any event, it seems that your client is sending you a TXML and you are opening it with Wordfast Pro. If your client sends you just the TXML file, without the original MS Word source, you will NOT be able to preview it in MS Word or save it back in its original format. Can you request that your client also sends you the original source document? If they are unable to do so, you wont be able to see it in the original format for review.
Sincerely,
Kristyna
