I have been a translator for as long as I remember.
I was born in the United States. I am the first born of a large Mexican family, most of whom were monolingual Spanish-speakers. My mother refused to learn how to speak English, and refused to even acknowledge me if I spoke in English to her, thereby forcing me to keep my Spanish.
As I child, I was always loaned out to whatever family member needed an interpreter for their next appointment. Whether it was for a doctor’s appointment, or a bank issue, there was little ole’ me.
Since then, I have had the opportunity to utilize my bilingual skills in many situations, and most of my employment has required bilingual skills. I have worked the Spanish customer service lines for Bank of America and Sprint. I have worked as a 911 Operator/interpreter for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and as a Bilingual Legal Interviewer for the Bar Association of San Francisco.
I am very proud of my body of work, and am fortunate to have found something that I truly enjoy. I am a strong advocate that language should never be an excuse, barrier, or inconvenience for communicating. I believe everyone should be heard, and I am happy to help everyone find their voice.  | |
