Working method:

As an experienced and motivated professional with a wide knowledge of language and linguistics I believe that quality comes before quantity and am therefore committed to translating as accurately as possible, taking into consideration cultural and environmental differences. I translate into British English or German. Source Texts are read through thoroughly several times before beginning the translation to ensure a full understanding of the content. I use computer-assisted translation tools (CAT) including terminology managers and translation memories to ensure a consistent and accurate translation each time.   Any diagrams, illustrations or graphs etc. are also acknowledged. I am available for proofreading too.


Professional experience in translation and proofreading:

(2010) Author and Proofreader, PONS GmbH

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities: recognising americanisms and adding the British equivalent for an Italian-English dictionary project.

 

(2010) Translator, Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville, Spain

 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities: translating course syllabi from Spanish to English, proofreading presentations and course syllabi created by Business Studies in English lecturers.

(2009) Translator/Interpreter/International Customer Services Representative, StemTech UK

Main tasks and responsibilities: translating StemTech presentations, emails and business communications from English into Spanish, German and French, interpreting at business conference meetings, communicating with international clientele, mainly Spanish and German, but also some Italian.

(2008) Assistance International Co-ordinator, Fortis Insurance, Eastleigh, UK

Main tasks and responsibilities: dealing with the insured whilst they are abroad and have had an accident or been ill, communicating with international hospitals to obtain medical information, translating medical reports, repatriating the insured by organising flights, air ambulances, nurses and doctors to accompany the ill person.
