Translator house swaps

Hello fellow translators,

I would like to run an idea by you to hear your views on the following subject: house/apartment swaps between translators.

The idea came about because I have been looking to spend some time in other countries, but I need specific technology to operate, the same as any freelance translator. So in theory I can work anywhere if I have broadband, a computer, a decent chair and table, the same as any other translator. For people who don't need 24 hour access to the internet it is hard to get across how important it is that the internet, wi-fi etc really does work, when enquiring about rentals. They just don't seem to understand. So I thought this might be a solution.

At best it might be a way to enrich our experiences at a low cost. At worst...well of course it raises a lot of questions.

I just wanted to test the water so to speak, gauge the general reaction to the idea.

Paul

Hello Paul,

I think it's a great idea, thanks for sharing it

Maybe those who would be willing to swap could write down a short description of what they offer and where they would like to go.

Matilde

OP has removed his profile

With an average number of viewings/post of 47 he may have got sufficient number of private offers to call his mission accomplished.

I cannot say I would like to be somewhere different from Santa Marta, Colombia. Right by the beach.

But if any of you decide to travel here, I can help arranging affordable accomodations and supply my internet modem with 24 hours access to internet .
