Translating Excel Files
Now I will give you a step by step guide how to translate Excel files.
Translating Excel files with Wordfast is actually simple. To do this, you need to open both Excel and Word.
Open Excel
First, open Excel and the Excel sheet you need to translate. Then go into the first cell of your Excel sheet and select it.
Open Word
Now open Word and create a new blank document.
Open Wordfast
Now go to the Add-Ins menu and open Wordfast. Click on the translate icon in the Wordfast menu. Now, Wordfast automatically selects the content of the Excel cell you have selected and displays it in the blank Word document.
You do not need to copy or paste anything from the Excel sheet! This is important because Wordfast automatically detects the content of the Excel file you are working with and copies it into the Word document.
Translate It!
Once Wordfast has copied the content of the Excel cell into Wordfast, you can start translating it as you normally do with Wordfast. When finished with translation, Wordfast automatically updates the content of the Excel cell with the translated word. That's it.
Now continue this step with all cells of your Excel sheet.
Drawbacks
One drawback of this method is that Wordfast overwrites the originally content of the source text. This is because you selected the cell in which the source text stands and Wordfast overwrites it with the translated text.
To avoid this, you can do a copy of the source words in the Excel file in a new column and do the translation in this new column.
